
Firefighter elevators, also referred to as emergency elevators, are designed in accordance with the EN 81-72 standard (Safety rules for the construction and installation of lifts) to ensure the safe and efficient transportation of firefighting teams and their equipment during fire emergencies.
In buildings with a building height exceeding 30.50 m or a structural height exceeding 51.50 m, at least one firefighter elevator is mandatory.
Compared to standard elevators, firefighter elevators include additional features that require special attention:
- Must comply with EN 81-72 firefighter elevator standards
- Directly illuminated sheet metal cabin ceiling
- IP54 protection class sealed lighting system
- IP54 rated electrical contacts
- Emergency exit hatch and ladder inside the cabin
- External emergency access ladder
- Electrostatically painted sheet metal cabin walls
- Aluminum checker plate floor covering
- Minimum cabin area of 1.82 m² and minimum load capacity of 750 kg
- Landing and cabin doors must be fire-resistant for at least 60 minutes and have minimum dimensions of 900 × 2000 mm
